Town of Innisfil has launched a new business and community online directory, which will be a powerful tool for finding local businesses and community groups. The Town will be hosting two workshops to present the online directory to Innisfil’s business owners and residents. Partnering with Your Local Marketplace (YLM), the Town is pleased to launch this user-friendly, self-maintaining directory found at www.ylm.ca/innisfil or by clicking the “Business Directory” button at www.innisfil.ca.

The partnership for the new online directory is part of an Inspiring Innisfil 2020 strategy to “create new networks – physical, digital, and person-to-person – to better connect residents and businesses.” The directory will provide residents and visitors information on places to eat, stay, shop and explore. The directory also creates a great opportunity for small and home-based businesses without websites to have a presence on the internet. YLM works with the leading search engines to make sure that their listings appear close to the top on search inquiries.

The new online directory is different from traditional directories as businesses and community groups will be able to maintain their own listings and update them regularly, which is similar to most social media websites. Listing highlights could include:
•	Driving directions
•	Links to social media and websites
•	Customized messaging
•	Uploading of images and logos
•	List of amenities

The two workshops will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Rooms at Town Hall (2101 Innisfil Beach Road) and Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the Cookstown Branch of the Innisfil Public Library (20 Church Street). YLM founder, Tim Kennaley, will be leading the workshops to show how a business or community group can be added to the directory and how to maintain the listing once it is created. The workshops are open to everyone in the community and participants are asked to please bring a laptop or tablet with them, if possible. As space as limited, please register in advance by contacting Rebecca Breedon, Development and Marketing Coordinator at rbreedon@innisfil.ca or 705-436-3710.

Through databases like Statistics Canada, YLM was able to obtain basic information about a number of businesses and community groups within Innisfil. If a business or group sees that their name is already listed on the website, they are asked to please contact Rebecca Breedon to obtain their username and password.
